TV Tuner

Well since the Fall's coming up, I decided I needed to get a TV for college. I noticed you could get a TV tuner card for the computer for around $30. How easy would it be to set up the card and start receiving video. Some of the cards had a cable input and S-video output. Some had 2 cable inputs, and them component cable outputs. Could I have a tuner card with the output as my video card?

You can use a TV Tuner for basic cable, from my understanding it cannot be used to control the channel and such of digital cable/satellite.

Well this is just for my dorm. My dorm has one basic cable for TV. And I've seen the cable splitters online and in some stores. Would this let me put 2 TV's on one cable?

Hey man, i was thinkin the exact same thing as you, im goin to be livin in a dorm next year too. I got a tv tuner off newegg for 30 bucks. Its this one - http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16815260017

Its really cool. You plug the cable in and it scans all your channels and you can watch tv in a minimized screen if you wanna multitask or make it fullscreen. It was really easy to set up once i downloaded the new drivers from the kworld website. It comes with a remote and a wire with a reciever so you can control the application with the remote. Or you can plug in the yellow video cable from an Xbox or a DVD player and watch those things.

It also has S-video and antenna input sources in the application. Theres also a hookup for FM radio in the back and it comes with a cord antenna to listen to radio. You can record clips of tv or from any of the inputs. Also you can set it to record a show, you set a time and channel and it records.

Theres picture stuff and music too. Its a really good buy if youre looking for a tv tuner.

IDK if this will help you at all, but I tried :)

Would a setup with my video card work? It's really confusing me. Basically I was wondering if I would use my tuner card for input only. I was going to have the sound from the TV come from my onboard speakers, and then I was going to get the video from my video card. Maybe set up a dual screen setup with the monitor-tv on the left and a bigger monitor on the right. You watch TV through Media Center correct?

I would get one of the better tuners, especially one with ATSC tuner so you can pick up over the air HD channels.

But this is for my dorm and all I get is basic cable. But I was mainly wondering if I could use this on a monitor and not a TV. I was going to get the sound from my speakers and the video from the video card, not all from the tuner. I was wondering if I could use the tuner solely as an input.
