tv tuner

i suggest jedijeff that you do a bit of reserch on HTPC
I was wondering the same questions.

I did a nice bit of reserch on building one. And the software and such needed
It seems rather complicated.
But i think im gona go ahead with it myself

But if you want to display anything onto a tv youll need a GPU and a Tv tuner

As i was saying earlier, i reccomend looking up on things like formatts of movies and such and converting, and the basic functions of a tv tuner.
It may not be complicated for yourself.but for me.i think it could prove a bit of fustration
But im up for the challenge:D

A tv tuner opens up using a program from your desktop. It is no different from opening microsoft word or photoshop or whatever, except instead of a blank document showing up, tv does.

For recording shows you dont need anything but the tv tuner. For watching movies from tv, you just change to the channel its playing on. To record lets say your ps2 onto your computer, you would need some sort of input device on your tv tuner, whether it be composite, s-video or component.

You hook the tv tuner to your coaxial cable/satelitte cord.

Get a haughpauge (or h/e u spell it) pvr. They are great. Honestly.

You MUST have at least a supported graphics card, for example most tuner cards these days need a graphics card that supports direct draw. I have a digital tv tuner card and when I replace my 7900GT with a 32MB PCI card, it refused to run. It all depends on what your TV tuner card requires.

ALL the tuner cards that I come across have S-Video, and various outputs and inputs to make your computer your entertainment hub, enabling you to connect your VCR and DVD into the mix.

I just put one in my computer and it worked without me doing anything you just have to install the drivers and get a program like windows media center to watch and record.
