Two dumb guys and a computer.

Hey guys i have a rather large problem and need a little help. Today i was installing an internal wireless adapter in my friends computer and of course i unplugged everything but realized i forgot to install the actual software which i was supposed to do first before anything. I finished that up and then inserted the adapter but didn't realize the computer was still on so the computer shut off and will not turn back on. I am very disappointed in myself because i've always had a knack for computers and i made a very dumb mistake. Im wondering if this could just be a blown fuse somewhere, the power supply is shot, or even worse.....the motherboard is no good. Please get back to me ASAP for his wife does not know that we killed her computer and we don't plan on her finding out unless it is something that we cannot fix. I know what we did was extremely stupid and really can't even believe i made this awful mistake. Criticism will not help so if you want to make fun thats fine, but it will really just make things worse.

not sure but seems like either you should check the psu if it works, check the motherboard if anything looks "burnt" or check any of the capacitor if its leaking.

^ do that

Will it do anything at all?

When you push the power button, do any fans or lights come on?

You may very well have fried something. If it's the power supply, that's an easy(though possibly expensive) fix. If it's the motherboard, you'll probably have to find another one of the same make and model. The version of windows that's used in store-bought computers doesn't let you transfer it to another motherboard.

What's the make and model of the PC? Should say on the front somewhere. For example, mine's a Dell Optiplex GX240, and AusLinda's is a GX260.

Just unplug everything, including the power, press the power button as to turn it on and let it sit for a few seconds. IDK why, but when plugging in hardware when you're not supposed to, often this fixes subsequent problems with booting up... messing around with old hardware taught me a lot :P

^ good idea.

What that will do is discharge the electricity from your motherboard. If something's wonky with the capacitors, that should fix it.
