Hi. I have a big problem with my computer. I am using two Hard drives of different sizes, 320 and 80 GB respectively. The fisrt one is installed Window 7 and the other Window XP. The hard drive which i use mostly is the 320 GB one, the other (80 GB) mostly for storing important files. I have installed AVG antivirus with the first Hard drive and the other hard drive I have not yet installed any antivirus, but I am thinking of installing Quick Heal antivirus, not so long. I just want some advices about how dangerous, or is it right to install two antivirus, in two different hard drives in the same computer. I would be glad if answer my post. Peter

Could you clarify how your machine is setup, you said the 80gb drive is only for files, but you also seem to indicate, xp is on one drive and win 7 on the other ?

Are the xp and 7 on different drives or are they on the same drive but in seperate partitions ?

As long as both aren't installed in the same operating system you are fine. I would use the free version of avast though.

Thanks very much James. The first hard drive is 320 GB and using Win 7 OS with AVG antivirus installed on it. The second Hard drive is 80 GB, using Win XP installed on it, but I dont frequently use it, I am thinking of installing Quick Heal antivirus. Is it right to do so James.

I have never heard of quick heal av so i would assume it is not a popular mainstream av, also avg is not a top av it is average.

As recommended by john in the above post, avast is the top free av although it does require you to register with email, if you do not wish to do that, avira av is another top program and does not need to register.

Thanks very much James. My main problem is not about the type of antivirus, but is about whether it is right to install two different av, in two different hard drives using two different os, in the one computer

Thanks John. But I heard that if you install two av in one computer is not right. How different to install those av in two different hard drives. Are those AVs not going to freeze your computer as in one hard drive?

Having 2 is fine as long as they are not installed on the same OS. So if you are dual booting XP and 7 one antivirus installed for XP one installed for 7. If you have both AV systems installed for one operating system, that is where you run into problems. It is not one antivirus per hard drive, it's one antivirus per OS.

But I heard that if you install two av in one computer is not right.

Who ever told you that then he/she/they have no idea what he/she/they are talking about.
As long as you do not have tons of antivirus programs installed on ONE SINGLE OPERATING SYSTEM (regardless if the operating systems are installed on same hard drive or physical multiple hard drives) then you will be fine.

Also you CAN have multiple antivirus programs installed even on the same operating system and they will work just fine as long as you know how to configure them properly and as long as they are not having code conflicts with each other. But that is a little bit more complicated so you do not have to do this UNLESS if you are 100% that you know what you are doing. But you are not since you asked this question in the first place lol :D

Cheers!
