Ubuntu 12.04

Well I never thought I would go back to Ubuntu but after trying LM12, OpenSuse and Xubuntu with major bugs that I could not get around in all of them I decided to give it another shot. I have to say that it is not perfect by any means but I like it a lot better than I did the others. At least I don't have it sending a bug report every minute or so. Unity is more customisable than I remember from the last versions.

Anyone else tried it? Thoughts?

I had been using Xubuntu before it came out. It worked before for me than any other distro. I update to Xubuntu 12.04 and I kind of regret the decision. Half of my hardware drivers were broken and still are. Not to mention a few other minor bugs.

What bugs are you getting in 12.04? The only times that applications have crashed for me is when I was doing a few file transfers at the same and had a few programs running. My music player went dead for a few seconds then came back.

For me Xubuntu was constantly asking me to send in bug reports for crashing programs. Almost all background programs. Nothing crashed that I really saw.

I am using it with Gnome Classic.Works like a charm. But I tried Xubuntu Desktop and was not so happy with it. And I also tried GNoME 3, and it crashes. I am not so used to unity, did not even test it once. Just moved straight to new DEs.

I've been running it for a couple weeks now. Unity is a bit more customizable than it was in the 11.04 days, and there is a serious lack of themes available; but the OS seems to be a bit faster than 10.04 and I've not had any catastophic crashes yst.

I, personally, like Unity; just wish I had a little more leeway in the personalization (I want individual wallpapers, dammit!), and I wish I could shut off the logon music.

I've been having fun customizing launchers, though...

I have been using it for about 31 minutes. NOt even that long if I could have found my 10.04 disk. Personally I still think unity looks like crap, and is too flashy. I have not had any crashes yet, but one note. Under power preferences I have only 3 options (not counting battery and pluged in) which are 1. Suspend when inactive for 2. When power is critically low 3. When lid is closed. I have all set to do nothing yet if I do nothing on it (say waiting on a message reply) for a while it still shuts the dang screen off and forces me to log back in. If I could fix that I would not mind using it. I will probably learn to live with it.

The only real reason that I needed it was to get the computer working in under 30 minutes. I had wiped it and screwed everything trying to get reactOS to load on it. That was a pile of defecation on the fan.

You know you can change Unity and use another DE right?

I can, but I don't really care to undertake the task at the moment. I am just using it as a backup. The main thing is that it runs.

Figured out the screen issue, in this version it is listed under screen settings instead of power settings.

Bug, or issue I have, I have found it. The software center is still freezing every little bit, but only for 15 or so seconds. I don't think it is a OS issue though as I had the same problem on 10.04. I will try it on the desktop next week and see how it runs.

This has been my experience as well. It seems a bit faster than I remember when I went from 10.04 to 11.04.

Running dual monitors was a pain to set up with unity but I changed some of the settings in CCSM to my liking. Originally I thought it was going to be really dumb to have options for your programs on both monitors but It seems more user friendly now since I have some programs far away from the unity bar. I don't have to go over both monitors to change any settings.

My initial impression is that unity would be better suited for someone that does not like to change the OS much. Just install it and leave it.

The general consensus among the Ubuntu crowd is that Canonical is taking aim at OSX; if so, then of course there will be little customization...

I like the spinning cube, and got it set up in Unity, but I get this annoying flash every time I rotate to the next desktop.

Lord, I wish I could find a decent theme! Even an earth-tone one that went with the Pangolin wallpaper would be nice... just get rid of the freakin white!

It is quite obvious to see when you compare the two. it's kinda turning into a clone.

I would bet that there will be plenty of themes that are able to install like you can for Windows 7. Not like in previous versions that come standard with the OS

I have been using 12.04 for about a day and I like it. They polished it up a bit.

The only bad news is that the version of firefox that is loaded with it will be the last version to receive 64 bit flash support. Linux is Losing 64 Bit flash support this year. On the good side of things Google will continue to develop 64 bit flash for the Linux Chrome Browser.

Using gnome classic so far, I've not experienced many problems. A bit discouraging as I am so use to XFCE, But I can't get the power manager to work and therefore my laptop doesn't charge.

My only issue in gnome is that I have no sound, but that happens no matter which distro I install.

That can be fixed. Have you ever used anything linux based on which your sound was working?

Thought of using Unity on Ubuntu 12.04, so far not many issues, most of the problems are because of the interface change.
Here is a screenie

What theme are you using, Mihir?

Swar-Black-base-blue.
I am also using custom transparency settings and Xubuntu Icon pack
I tried green as well, green was better except I wasn't able to figure out how to change the chromium's top bar's color from ugly green to proper nvidia green.
