Ubuntu and Window App/Games?

Hi.

Is there any way I can run Window games and applications using Ubuntu Linux?

I do not want to dual-run XP at all...don't want Windows anything near on my computer. :p Wondering if there are any simulators etc like there is WINE for BSD.

Thanks.

You can run certain games but not all of them, they're very limited mostly, double booting is your best choice if you want to play

I would like to use secure Linux. :(
Is there no simulator like WINE or something for Linux as there is for Unix?

WINE works on Linux too.

I find it alot more complicated than just running Windows. Often times people complain about viruses and glitches, but if your someone who doesnt need to look at porn and download illegal programs off of Limewire than that doesnt matter now does it. These viruses come from people looking and doing these things but to be quite frank I dont even have a virus scan or firewall and my computer runs clean with no spyware. It runs efficient and rarely, very very rarely has a minor glitch and if it does its just a frozen program. Really, Ubuntu isnt as reliable as you think. I dont like Gimp and I dont like ,QCad as replacements for Photoshop and AutoCad. I dont like replacements for Adobe Creative and I dont like replacements for AIM and all of Vista's fine features. Really, if your looking for something other than Windows, the only real alternative would be OSX86.

Agree men, alternative is osx X86, i just installed Crossover Mac yesterday, and i've installed a windows software with no probs, the latest release of cossover is stable.
I can see you don't like linux but please help the Original poster, don't discourage him.
If somehow the OP gets the official wine which is crossover www.codeweavers.com/
it will be easier to manage and installed windows software, wine doesn't have many apps and it's not stable.
I even manage to install Outlook express and Media player on ubuntu with Crossover official.
even though OE ran only once and crashed..lol
it is not difficult installing windows software on linux you just have to read the documentation fo which software works and which doesn't

Oh course that breaks the EULA on the subject of not doing stuff thats illegal. Buy a mac if you want OS X.

And yea wine is to complicated for games....or atleast new ones. I have quite a few Win 98 games running a full speed. After all WINE is BETA Software.

2 more things. Theres Wine for Windows to. and WINE is not a simulator its a compatibility layer.

am sorry but for the life of me i can only use Mac x86.
and it's not complicated, it's just a matter of understanding how it works.
and by the way it's WINE IS NOT AN EMULATOR, not simulator..lol

Cedega unfortunately will not solve all of his problems, you need to check what games it supports at the moment.

At the end of the day, if you're a heavy gamer you either need to:

A) Buy a console.
B) Dual boot with Windows
c) Stick with Windows

No to the contrary, I love Linux, well... Ubuntu. I just don't think its great out of the box. I mean its nice to have a free software thats stable but its not nice to put forth all the effort to look for guides to install your software and drivers, and spend and hour or two being completely Linux illiterate trying to figure what the hell sudo means and where do you put it. Yes, I know its in the terminal, and yes I have completely figured everything out. But thats the nice things about Windows, it generally comes with all the drivers you need unless you pirate it off the internet, and if you have to install something, you double click and go. Simple as that. On top of that, you don't have to install codecs just to use MP3s. Now to be quite frank, I do use Ubuntu, in fact I don't use anything else but it. However, I hate using Gimp and I hate using QCad, and I can't figure out how to get WINE working. On top of that, I saw how CS2 looked under wine, it looks pathetic and Windows 95ish...

(ANYS!)
About your post, if you can figure out wine, great, if you cant use this program called Wine Doors... It should do it for you. I had another software program that allowed a Windows Environment on your PC however I misplaced it and found it unstable, allowing exe's to run was just waiting for trouble.
