ubuntu Install problem?

So my wife wanted me to install Ubuntu on her new Vaio and the install goes successfully and when it reboots it goes to a black screen with a blinking line in the left hand corner and nothing else. I have already set the bios primary boot from internal HDD.

Check for an incompatibility with the graphics hardware. I have heard that that can cause that problem.

You might want to try a different version of Ubuntu. I heard that the Alpha or Beta of 11.10 is more stable than 11.04.

10.10 is no longer available form the Ubuntu site. 10.04.2_32 is the current most stable S from ubuntu. try that and see of it is better.

Sounds to be a issue with either the HDD or GPU. see above for suggestions.

Well could not get it to work with any of Ubuntu releases, which I do not get it, the gpu is the same as the one I have but I guess for my wifes college graduation a present from system76 will fix the issue.

Just re-installed Windows for the time being but I will say a pain in my rear with installing each driver which not use to since don't normally have to with Ubuntu.
