10.10 is no longer available form the Ubuntu site. 10.04.2_32 is the current most stable S from ubuntu. try that and see of it is better.Check for an incompatibility with the graphics hardware. I have heard that that can cause that problem.
You might want to try a different version of Ubuntu. I heard that the Alpha or Beta of 10.10 is more stable than 11.04.
Sounds to be a issue with either the HDD or GPU. see above for suggestions.So my wife wanted me to install Ubuntu on her new Vaio and the install goes successfully and when it reboots it goes to a black screen with a blinking line in the left hand corner and nothing else. I have already set the bios primary boot from internal HDD.
