Ubuntu Netbook Remix? Bleh

Has anyone else tried this? I wanted to load Ubuntu on my new D150 and that download caught my eye. I figured I'd give it a shot so downloaded and installed it. To be honest, I found the new layout rather annoying.

For those who haven't tried it, they have essentially made all windows run in tabs. Basically any program, dialogue, etc will load full screen with a small icon along the top. In a way this is nice because of the lack of resolution many netbooks posses. However, trying to use split screens is well...impossible (perhaps there's some way, but I didn't spend much time looking :P)

There's also no desktop anymore. Everything's in groups. For example, you click Internet, and get icons for Firefox, Pidgen, etc... Eh, I don't know, I guess I don't like change and prefer my desktop.

Finally, I figured there'd be some performance changes or something, but really, there's nothing that helps with netbook's lack of power (not like much could be done!) Though to be honst, Linux does run quite well on my lil Acer.

Well...anyone else tried this release? I know I'm sticking with the standard desktop version.

I have a remix of that remix. Its called Jolicloud, Heard of it?

Im actually a fan of the layout, to me its a netbook, everything is simply grouped and some-what clean. I actually like the simplicity of it.
I'm not sure if the Ubuntu netbook remix has this, but If i needed to check my gmail or my hotmail and I don't want to open up firefox and type all that in, I just press the app and a dedicated firefox page opens straight to it

Yes, I installed it on a friends Dell Mini 9.

I did notice the layout changes, and I didn't mind it.

It is what it is I guess. A simple, slightly scaled down version of Ubuntu,
easy to use on netbooks.

I would definitely not use it on a desktop, as it's missing some power features like GParted.

No I had not heard of it... I didn't even realize Ubuntu had a "remix" until I went to download 9.04 32bit for my netbook. Jolicloud does look nice, but I still think I prefer the basic desktop approach :P I guess I also don't have a tremendous number of programs that I use.

I don't think it's that scaled down, considering the standard ISO is around 650MB and the remix is right at 1GB. And it's missing GParted? Wow...what'd they do with all that space?! Can't be drivers...at least nothing extra was required for my Acer to use the basic Desktop version :P

I was actualy going to download and try remix....but then my netbook failed on me and never got to try it out.

i might still give it a go on VMWare workstation just to see what its like.
