So i just installed Ubuntu on my Laptop, and i have no idea how to install programs on it. can anyone provide me with some links to how to go about, or if you could provide the information, it would be awesome. thanks

There's a couple of different ways. GUI or CLI.

From the command line, Ubuntu and other Debian based distro's use "aptitude" or "apt-get" for software (package) management. Open a terminal and type:
Code:
sudo apt-get update
You'll be asked for the super user / root password. This will give you an idea how aptitude and apt-get work. To install a package, replace "update" with the package name. All of the dependencies will be found and the software will be installed.

An easier way is with the GUI. From the toolbar, click system-administration and look for the program that installs software. I forget the name of it at the moment but it will be obvious when you see it.

A quick heads up. Being in Canada, the default server for software packages is the Canadian server. Change it to the Main Server, you'll find it much faster.

I don't know which desktop you are using but either one will have a program that downloads and installs software from the repositories without any need for shell commands. Just look around your directories and you will find it.

You have to be kidding.
