Which do you think i should go for?

I know there is a big dispute between gnome and KDE, but which distro would you go for?

Which has the most support?
Which as the most updates, expansions, compatible software etc..
Which looks the nicest and hase the best eye candy?
Which is the most reliable?

Etc... have to decide which version to go for.

I have experience with ubuntu, but not kubuntu.

It's down to personal preference.

Neither is better than the other.

If you have Ubuntu installed already then just install the kubuntu-desktop package then logout of your session and choose KDE and give it a go.

http://www.psychocats.net/ubuntu/kde <- installing KDE on Ubuntu.

If you don't currently have Ubuntu installed then download the Kubuntu ISO, it's a Live or Desktop CD as it's now known.

I personally prefer Kde to gnome because of it's web browser and gnome has a few things i dislike. Mainly it's down to personal preference but i would go for KDE.

Code:
sudo cp -p /etc/apt/sources.list /etc/apt/sources.list_backup
sudo gedit /etc/apt/sources.list
This will open your repositories list for editing

replace what is in the file with these lines:
Code:
## Add comments (##) in front of any line to remove it from being checked.
## Use the following sources.list at your own risk.

## CANONICAL COMMERCIAL REPOSITORY (Hosted on Canonical servers, not Ubuntu
## servers. RealPlayer10, Opera, DesktopSecure and more to come.)

## Listen
#deb http://theli.free.fr/packages/ edgy listen

save and then try:

Code:
sudo aptitude install kubuntu-desktop

that should allow you to unstall KDE

Ubuntu is not better than kubuntu, they are both built on the same code base; what runs on one will run on the other. the only difference is the desktop. KDE is more Windows like; Gnome is more Mac like. Just a matter of preference.

A VERY good reference source is the ubuntuguide wiki

Let us know what happens!
