Ok. I should know this, but have never had a need to do it before.
Problem: I am at grandads. Dont have any DVD's/CD's, no Flash key. The Grub MBR on my AMD Acer is screwed (tried to remove ubuntu and forgot that was the source of grub).

My idea: is it possible that I could Download the .iso on my working laptop, and attach it through ethernet ports and boot it to install that way? Or am I going to have to wait till I get home and have access to my Ubuntu flash key?

Pretty sure that you will have to wait. I don't think that you could make it bootable from your Ethernet port.
Yeah, IIRC you need some sort of bootable CD (XP, Ubuntu) to fix your MBR. It's especially hard if you try to install linux on a USB key, although that's my own problem. :)

what exactly is the issue? Can you not fix it from the command line? Or can you not even get that far?

I couldnt get that far. It was stuck at the grub screen. I fixed it by reinstalling ubuntu in 2gb partition just to get it back to grub and windows.
Its fixed now.
