i tried a fresh install, pop in the cd boot into dos hit enter as instruction and then after scrolling a few seconds it goes blank.

No, that shouldn't be a problem at all. During the installation it has a partition manager in it, which asks which partition to install to, and i'm not sure, but possibly make a new partition too.

Have you tried the Live CD?
 
what r the correct settings on running ubuntu? i kept getting errors like not detecting hardrive and cdrom.

if ur interested.. there is a free version for linux based on slackware.. runs pretty neat.. can be run as a windows type interface gui.. or just plain linux

installation is pretty straight forward n easy if u have deal w/ linux before or even if u haven't.. the toturial is great

Ubuntu is free, CH.

KoF, are you trying to run Ubuntu as a virtual machine? What version of VMWare are you running? Are you setting the virtual machine to have physical access to your disk?
