Ultra LS and ThermalTake Tr2?

I'm putting together a system for a friend and i'm currently looking through the combo deals at tigerdirect. Most of them that include a power supply either include a Thermaltake Tr2 500w or an Ultra Lsp 550w.

I've owned an Ultra Lsp and it seemed like a decent supply over all (although mine had a defect towards the end of it's life) and the lifetime warranty looks like a good deal.

I've heard the Tr2 seems to be an all encompassing name for Thermaltake, apparently including some older not so good supplies and some newer decent ones. Which category would this Tr2 fall into: http://www.tigerdirect.com/applicat...dsPerPage=5&body=REVIEWS#CustomerReviewsBlock

I've also seen some budget cooler master elite supplies but the reviews don't look all that promising.

Basically if both of the supplies are relatively reliable then i would buy whichever combo is a better deal.

Agreed with JOhn, neither of those PSUs are very good, plus what is most important for us to understand is what hardware they'll be pushing.

Here are some examples of the bundle deals i'm looking at.
For a gpu i'll be using a midrange card like a 7770,7790, Gtx 650 ti, etc.
I'm mostly looking for opinions on the supplies themselves but feel free to mention what the best deal on the list might be.
The core i5 bundles don't include a hdd so i'd have to purchase that as well.

There are a couple that include Amd Apu's and Kingwin Maximum 650w and 750w supplies.

Most of the budget kits from Newegg.ca that include a psu have Rosewill supplies included:

Thanks in advance :)

Well, I wouldn't suggest using any of the psu's in those links. The power supply is the backbones of your system. The ls600 is pretty crappy as far as output on the 12 volt rail.

Yeah, those PSUs are garbage. Will they work? Yes. Will they provide you with quality, clean and stable power into the future (with upgrades in mind), probably not.

Is this the same thermaltake tr2: http://www.hardwaresecrets.com/article/Thermaltake-TR2-700-W-Power-Supply-Review/1422

They also mention that Thermaltake used the same tr2 designation for a less effecient supply but i can't seem to find any other useful tr2 reviews other than the one for the tr2 rx modular.

Please explain why the Ultra Ls and Lsp, Rosewill Stallion, and Kingwin maximum are garbage?

I've seen some decent reviews of other Rosewill supplies:

http://www.hardwaresecrets.com/arti...es-630-W-RG630-S12-Power-Supply-Review/881/10

I've seen a positive review of what appears to be the 450w version of the Kingwin Maximum (though they state the design is a bit dated): http://www.hardwaresecrets.com/article/533

It looks like Ultra hasn't always been all that great in the past and i'm good with avoiding that one due to the 12v rail power rating, but i'd like to see a proper review saying that the Thermaltake and the Rosewill are crap because so far I haven't seen anything like that?

Does anyone have an idea if the ThermalTake tr2 in the review is the same Thermaltake tr2 that is included with the Tigerdirect combos?

They generally had good things to say about it: http://www.hardwaresecrets.com/article/Thermaltake-TR2-700-W-Power-Supply-Review/1422/11

The one in the review is supposed to be 80 plus bronze certified so it seems like it's a different supply.

I appreciate the advice to go with the Corsair, but I won't dismiss other options out of hand without reason.
