Ultra X3 1KW in Antec 900

I'm working on my first motherboard swap (which has rapidly turned into a use-my-existing-drives-complete-build), and I'm beginning to think that I may need to get a new case.

I'd like to install an Ultra X3 1000W in an ANtec Nine Hundred (and yes, I know it's a love-it-hate-it case). Because the Ultra is actually wider than my current ATX Mid-Tower, I was wondering if anyone had run into any clearance issues using this case with this PSU. For reference, the X3 1000W is 7.5" wide, and the Antec is 8.1" wide.

Thanks man, for your several replies. I rather like the look of your interior. The super-bright electric blue is pretty hot, as is the enormous Zalman. Seeing yours, I think I might light up mine (never even thought about it before), keeping it neon green and a little dimmer, more indirect lighting. But for now, I'll settle for cursing my current case's cramped interior and bulging frame.

dont buy an ultra psu. get a pc power and cooling 750. im prettuy sure you'd be better off.

Are you planning any SLI setup as well as water cooling there? A 1000w supply would be overkill to some extent for the average build while SLI and water cooling setups added with multiple hard drives and other devices will tax smaller models. One good reference on how to select a good make and model for the type of build planned is the recent sticky on supplies now seen. http://www.computerforum.com/90118-useful-psu-guides.html

I'm not planning on going with a high-end SLI rig right out the door, but one of the goals of this ever-expanding build is to make it expandable. That was the biggest shortcoming of my current rig (MicroATX mobo, 350W PSU w/ 16A on 12V rail, etc), which was a gift from my parents and was very capable three years ago. I understand that 1KW is a lot of power, far more power than I'll be needing in the short term. But I don't want to get caught underpowered when that 8800Ultra actually gets affordable.

As for water cooling...it frightens the hell out of me. I would love to, at some point, probably to cool video cards (which I love to overclock). But until I get a little more experience under my belt, water cooling only reminds me of some fantastic aquarium messes that have happened to me, messes which do not mix well with computer parts.

I can see that point fast! :P Water cooling systems are also high priced items if you are on somewhat of a budget and simpy want good cooling. Air conditioned cases see an even higher price tag for those!

Planning on adding two more larger capacity drives here I went from a 550w supply to a 700w model that still leaves extra to some degree for later expansion of usb or other types of devices. The build here however is not for ocing or strictly gaming while that has to be added in at some point. :D

Yeah, I have to say those liquid cooling kits are a little pricey. And really, am I going to need that much cooling? Probly not. Just a little to keep my CPU from burning out, my HD from melting, and my GPU able to run a comfortable OC @ 40C or so.

And maybe, at some point, do a RAID setup with a pair of WD Raptors

The Raptors would have to be in a sata array. But any array is far better applied for server application rather then on a typical desktop or gaming system. When a pair of 750gb sata drives go in here they will each be a separate logical drive for storage, backing things up, and some Linux or Solaris on top. The next version following Vista would then see the second 500gb model now a storage drive as a new home there.
