I just found a 30 gig hard drive in my atiic i think it has widows xp on it and i want to see it it works.. if i unplug ny regular harddrive's cables and plug the onto this one can i break my computer in any way at all?

Doing this correctly won't break your computer (of course it's a different matter if you drop the hdd on the mobo, or try to unplug it when it's on or something like that).

You'll also need to make sure that the jumper is set correctly, or else the system won't boot.

Even if it does have XP on it, it's unlikely to run properly, as drivers etc... will be those of a different computer. You're best to plug it in as a secondary drive and boot from your current drive.

And btw, don't bump after 14mins:)

Chill out man, what makes you think people have even refreshed the page within that 14 mins that you bumped, jesus, we're here of our own accord, not just to service you with answers immediately after you've asked them, have some courtesey.

And yes you would be able o plug the drive in like that, but NO it wont work cos windows XP would be set up on that drive for use with another computer, no chance of it working at all, unless all computers youve ever owned are identical in every way, shape and form.

Set it up as a slave drive and boot from the master like you usually do. Then take a look at the files on the disk.....

geez...so anxious to get a response, yet no "thank you".

and no. it wont break. however, using an os isnt as simple as switching the hdd of another computer, as we have all found out (to our dismay) at some point.
