Hi all
I've got a dell e1505. It can't detect the dvd drive through my computer, device manager, and disk management. there is power, as i see the LED light and i can open the drive. however, sometimes when i push in hard enough, on a reboot, it will detect the drive.
I'm not sure if that's the problem, that it's not fully connected to the motherboard inside. If so, do I have to open it up and take a look inside?

It seems that the data cable of the drive seems to be slightly damaged,as pushing makes it connect. The power cable is good, as LED blinks and drive opens.

I dont think u should take a risk of opening the laptop urself unless ur expert. Laptop replacements are quite complex compare to desktop. Better take it to a qualified service personal.

I think sshaggy is probably right, although you should be fine to at least take the cover off the laptop. Just make sure you keep check of where all the screws go, maybe lay them out on a sheet of paper with labels. Make sure it is unplugged and the battery out first, then discharge any remaining electricity by trying to turn it on.

Hopefully it will just be a case of giving it a little wiggle! Doug.
