long story, but not being a very computer minded guy, i don't know what is the problem so i'll just let you know everything. scroll down to the problem part without the story behind it if you don't like reading.
THE STORY
almost a year ago, i bought a 6600gt, of course i installed it. then my computer would tend to restart itsself while i am gaming about 70% of the time. then after a while, it started to only restart itself about 10% of the time, so i ignored the problem.
then just last month my comp restarting problem seemed to come back again, and it notonly limits itself to gaming now. and after one of the restarts, my xp said some file was damaged and it replaced it itself. but the restarting problem still persists. so i went ahead and bought a bigger power supply as recommended by my video card technical support.
and not only did the problem not get any better, but it was getting worst, not only could i not go into regular wiindows after restarts, but i cannot even go into safe mode either now. so after a few tries, i was able to back up my drive with the help of another computer's operating system.
THE PROBLEM
when i try to install XP, everytime it shows the progress bar or when just as it hits 100%, a screen pops up and says it is unable to read the CD and it might be damaged. ok, so i opened up a brand new copy of xp (came with my comp, just nvr used it yet, 100% legit) and it says the same thing.
so i thought my hdd was broken and my friend, with the brand new hdd he just bought he installed it into my comp, seeing if we could install the operating system into his hdd, same unable to read CD thing pops up again.
and here i am, totally stumped. hope you guys can help me out!
thanks.
*UPDATE*
ok, so i took out 3 sticks of 256MB rams to see if it could be bad ram. ok, i installed the XP fine this time. everything's great once again. then i tried to add the rams back in to see which stick was the bad ram, found the bad one. now with 768mb and everything works i was still happy enough just to get my comp back. but as i'm installing back the windows update and therefor needed to restart my comp. and during one of the restarts a blue screen poped up and says something. URGH, just when i wana turn it on again to see what the error is so i can type it here to see if anyone can help, my comp doesn't even show a screen, it just beeps.
totally stumped. please help.
