Unable to secure wireless

I'm trying to secure my wireless connection because I am not really comfortable with my wireless settings being set to open with no security at all. The problem is when I try to enable wep, wpa, or any type of encryption method my computer (laptop with specs listed in sig) will my router but not connect to the internet with the message "your connection settings do not match those on your computer".

Any ideas?

Sorry for more questions, but what operating system are you using? What model is that Broadcom? It's possible you're using an authentication or encryption method not compatible with the router or adaper.

You may need to go in into the wireless settings on your adapter and change the "Network Authentication" to the correct settings that you're router is broadcasting.

What authentication and encryption method are you using?

Or call Belkin, I'm sure they would be more than happy to help.

Usually if you delete the existing data for that wireless connection and reset it up, it usually works. As said before, what operating system are you running?

The os is windows vista 64 bit, I found the above details by going into device manager which listed 2 things, the broadcom network adapter (with no further details) and Nvidia nforce 10/100/1000 Mbps Ethernet#2 (which is listed as corrupted/damaged, I assume the broadcom adapter is the only one being used). I've also tried reseting the router a couple times but to no avail.

As for the encryption tried, I tried every one that was listed which was WPA-personal/enterprise, WPA2-personal/enterprise, shared, and 801.1x.
All of them would ask for a network key and would take the key but windows would throw an error.

The error goes like "windows was unable to connect because your network settings do not match those on your computer".

Delete the existing wireless settings for that connection and then reset it back up. Go into the network and sharing center and click on the left hand side where it says manage my wireless connection and then delete it.

Worked like a charm, thanks John!
