Underscore When Starting Up

This just started a few days ago. When I go to turn the computer on, after a few seconds I get a black screen with a white underscore that blinks in the top left corner of the screen. This may have been there before but it didn't last long enough for me to pay any attention to it. Now, it lasts somewhere around 10-15 seconds before it shows my BIOS for 2 seconds, then widows starting up and everything is fast except that underscore. What is this?

Do you have a CD in the drive? Maybe it's reading the CD trying to decide whether it is bootable or not? Also, have you recently changed any BIOS settings? You could try restoring BIOS to defaults and see if that changes anything. Have you added any other hardware? HDD or CD-Drive, USB Drives, etc?
 
Okay, there is no cd and no hardware change. I will see what the boot order is and get back to you. Also, it actually lasts for 30 seconds!
 
The boot device is HDD first then cd. I restarted the computer to check this and it didn't do the underscore thing. Must only be when I start the computer after shutting it down? Odd...
 
I just got the blue screen again. It lasted for one second just enough time to realize it was a blue screen lol

I haven't gotten one for a long time but it is really getting on my nerves.

I also get this error message. It's a small box that read:

KMtNSb
Run-time error '9':
Subscript out of range

and then I have one option to hit Okay

How do I get rid of this?
 
What were you doing when you get this message. That might help us figure out what is causing the run time error.

I had the same flashing underscore problem but with Ubuntu. I read some information that it is caused by having your boot files in a different location than where you computer thinks they should be. Might not be the same problem but hopefully it will help a bit.

I have experienced the same problem in Ubuntu. Blinks for 30 seconds after posting then boots. It seems that the problem is that your boot loader is searching for your Windows boot files but they are not where your bot loader thinks they should be. The blinking underscore is the time that it is searching for your boot files. At least for my system. I don't know if it is the same problem, but it does sound similar.

Do you have your system partitioned?

If this is the problem I think that your runtime error may be caused by your computer initializing for whatever it is loading at startup. (anti-virus, Messenger, etc...) but since it has to go searching for your boot files it might try to load something improperly and gets a runtime error. This is just my best guess i'm not sure if that is exactly what is happening.

I think it is the problem of BIOS. When you start the computer you should press the delete button to set the configuration in it. Set configuration in normal mode.
 
system restore to a couple days before this started happening.
depending on your mobo/bios make sure quick boot is enabled so you don't see unwanted crud when booting
check your registry keys with c cleaner or something similar (probably not it but might as well, i guarantee it'll find atleast a dozen errors)
Are you running any boot loaders or anything?
