Undersea Cables Damaged By Japan Earthquake

There is not much information on this out as yet the big telecommunications companies are keeping it quiet but the undersea network cable stretching as far as Japan to America and other surrounding areas has been (severed, cut, damaged) and is affecting international internet connections the users of this cable have been re routed to another undersea cable which is causing a lot of traffic congestion. If you are experiencing slower than normal internet connection speed/bandwidth/ping since the 11th of march 2011 this could explain why. I will provide more updates as they become available.

Does this only apply to people sending requests to servers in the far east countries?

No it affects everyone as the servers that normally use the line that is damaged are being re-routed and therefore putting a lot of pressure/congestion on other undersea cables.
 
Do you have any evidence to support your claims? Just seems like a nutjob's conspiracy theory the way you're saying the telecommunication companies are trying to keep it a secret.

It's completely possible imo. Though why the companies would be so stupid as to route the world's Internet through one cable idk.

I haven't experienced any problems however.

It isn't the doomsday crap you are making it out to be, it pretty much only affects japan and sites based in japan rather than being a global issue

Ah yes thank you "Aastii" for the link that is very much appreciated the issue is not anything at all related to "doomsday" as you put it, cables break and cables can be fixed. I was just informing the people of computer forum that Japan and its surrounding countries internet and telephone services are being re-routed through other countries such as Asia, Australia, America all over the world really and this is causing an internet slow down. This will last until the cables are repaired in how ever many months it takes to repair them.

So if you are experiencing slow internet responsiveness lately this is possibly the cause.
 
Just like to point out that undersea cables like these have been damaged before in a different area and the companies did not keep it quiet, they were quite open about it as a matter of fact.
 
Well as the article says, they have enough redundancy to cope. They don't mean they hae enough redundancy to supply everyone, but not at the right speeds, they mean they have safety allowances in in case of downtime such as this for whatever reason
