Understanding Motherboards

Hi there guys - I'm 'sorta' new in this forum, this is my second thread!

Anyway, to the point. I want to start understanding Motherboards in the context of market. As in, which are the descent ones, the top-rated manufacturers. I don't mean how they work, I already know how they work....
And also - I want to start building my own PC, how would I go about it and where would I be able to get cheap deals on the components?

And also, how come I can't seem to post on the sales threads? I want to post my Brand New XPS 8000 machine (Which is on eBay btw) but it obviously won't let me.

Shed some light on both topics please >.<

Asus, Gigabyte and MSI are the better brands of motherboard. ASRock is also made by Asus, but is of lower quality. That doesn't mean though that Intel, Foxconn, XFX etc are bad motherboard manufacturers, it is just they either don't have as many features, aren't as popular, or are low build quality.

To start building you own computer, get a budget, and build a balanced system within that budget. By balance, I mean don't have a low clocked dual core, with 24GB of RAM and crossfired 5970s. The CPU will bottleneck the system. that goes for all other components, the slowest component will dictate how fast the computer is.

For deals, look around, but for good eTailers, Scan, Overclockers UK and, to a point, eBuyer. Scan I would highly recomend because of prices, service and range:

Scan:http://www.scan.co.uk/
OcUK:http://www.overclockers.co.uk/
eBuyer:http://www.ebuyer.com/

As to why you can't post in the for sale thread, you need 100 posts. You also need 100 posts to send private messages to people. You can find out about this, and more, by reading the forum rules:

Thank you Aastii for a text book answer - Would you mind adding me on skype so that I can learn a little more from you? My skype name is usmaanz. Add me sometime please, i'd love to gain more knowledge in this subject.

Also - Do you think I can build a descent machine with a budget of £800?

That price discludes the Monitor. I want a machine that will last me a long time, has the capability to run most games, has very good processor, contains at least 4GB 1600MHz RAM, descent graphics card, descent PSU and a nice case - preferably CM 690 nVidia Edition.

Possible?

I will get skype, just for you :P

£800 is a respectable budget for a system, I built a system late last year with all that you have just asked for just over that budget, but certain bits were unneccessary
