Undisciplined little thing!

I have a Dell Latitude.
I'm not sure what the proper term is for the cursor{pointer} thing that you navigate to decide which links to click on.
My problem is sometimes it has a mind of its own and it flails around much like a water hose that has been turned on too fast. It then decides when it wants me to be able to manipulate it properly. This is a very minor problem but is still a slight annoyance. Is my computer ticklish or something?
Anyone know what to to about this?

yep, its called a pointer.
thats the mouse / touchpad.
try using a regular mouse, or something different than what you're using.

It could be a sensitivity issue there where lowering the settings in control panel could resolve that. Once you see the mouse icon go over to the mouse options tab to trim the mouse speed down a little on the slider. See if that helps.

Oh I didn't even think about that. It's functioning perfectly right now though. Could the fact that I currently have dialup which causes my computer to load everything slowly, be incapacitating my touchpad to an extent also?

A slower internet connection would be noticed through your browser window where you might see that at times. But there have been times when I've also seen the cursor act up a little without being online at the time. That is seen after the system has been running over ten hours however.

I just lowered the mouse/pointer settings. I am seeing a drastic difference! That really helped!!! I thought the dirt in my fingernails was jamming the system or something!hah It is fixed now though! Thanks!

I kind of suspected a wee bit of over sensitivity there? har! Glad you tried that idea to see if it helped.

HAHAHA! Kind of a funny sidenote.

I noticed that my pointer was still acting a little bit fishy even with the settings down. I looked to the heavens for help from above and I found it. Not through divine intervention, but when I looked up I noticed the air vent. It was positioned right above my laptop. The wind from the AC was messing with my touch pad!!! HAHAHA! Hopefully posting my stupidity will help someone else or at least give someone a laugh!

Actually I don't know if that was what was happening. I tried wheezing on it and putting a fan on it the but the same effect wasn't happening. I guess it was purely coincidental that the pointer acted up while the AC was running. This has got to be one of the dumbest technological experiments in the history of incompetence! Well other than the home bread maker! haha!

Ac line interference can see a few things at times. If the case and the ac are too close there may be a little electromagnetic field effect causing what you are seeing. Sudden temperature changes will certainly see things.
