Unhacking router

I think my router has been hacked because when I try to enter its settings using 192.168.1.1 there's only the status of the modem and not any settings, which were there before. I tried to reinstall the driver but it didn't work. Any suggestions?

What's the brand and model of the router? On most of them you can simply power them up while holding the reset button for a number of seconds (10...30...really depends). After this, most will reset to factory defaults.

I agree. Your best bet is to try to restore it to the factory defaults. Doesn't necessarily sound like you were hacked though.

Well I reset my router and reinstalled Windows XP but it's the same, no settings. Is there any other reason that there are no settings? It's Zyxel P-600 BTW.

Why would you reinstall XP? And did you do a soft or hard reset on the router? You need to do a hard reset to restore the default settings.

When you log into the router, does it say the name of the router anywhere? It's probably just bringing you to a status page instead of the settings page.

Sorry about that on the logon screen I didn't enter the password because I thought it was saved so it directed me to the status screen. So it's just my bad:(

i also have a Zyxel wireless router and i also encountered a few problems with it. not exactly what you went through, but port forwarding and other settings didn't work. i think it's just bad luck and that the model is not good. or the router cant handle the traffic.

try going to an edimax or and SMC router. i have lost my faith on Zyxel.
