Uninstaling,preinstalled Norton trial, Vista.

My mother in law brought a nice Toshiba laptop.
It came with Norton trial for 3months . Well, trying to remove it is just not happening. I tried uninstalling it form control panel ADD/remove. I tried ccleaner uninstall , no joy.

Is there an easy way to completely uninstall Norton ?

Go to this site and select your product, it will give you an uninstaller for Norton. After that i suggest running CCleaner to get rid of the excess files which uninstallers can leave behind. Keep in mind you should download but not install the Anti-Virus, Firewall, Anti-Spyware programs before you do so and install them immediately after uninstalling Norton.

That was a lot easier , Norton almost seems like a root kit.
I´ve just put Avira on it. I found Avira, and have been running it on my PC for a while. Seems ok and lite.
Oh yeh, my mother in law says gracia.

No problem, I'm glad you were able to sort it out.

Please remember if you already aren't it's good to have a good firewall and anti-spyware, such as Comodo and Spybot Search & Destroy.

no kidding. my vaio came with norton. to get rid of it i had to "activate it." activation required a cc card. what a joke. at that time there wasn't a sysmantec uninstaller so i had to use one of those 3rd party uninstallers to "force uninstall."
