uninstalling stock audio driver

i just bought a new soundcard (sound blaster audigy 4 -- any grievances, speak now or forever hold your peace) and i apparently need to uninstall my computer's built-in audio driver before i do anything. i found the audio driver folder and clicked "remove.exe" and nothing happened i'm pretty sure. then i ran it in cmd and still nothing. i'm a little stuck!

you should be ok just to plug the new card in and install the drivers, everything should run fine from there :)

Actually, most onboard soundcards will continue to work even when the new card is installed. It's best to go into your bios and disable it, if you have the option. You don't really need to worry about uninstalling drivers for the old. If you see anything in Add/Remove, you might want to get rid of it, but otherwise, you should be fine.

usually it will override though so that the newly installed one works fine, but as you say, its simpel enough to disable in the bios just in case :)

thanks for the tips guys. i'm about to put my new sound card in.

quick question: i don't want to damage the circuitry with a static shock. all i have to do is touch something metal beforehand, correct? like a key or something?
