Uninstalling Windows XP

I brought a second hand computer a while ago and apparently the Windows XP on it is not genuine. However i do have a Windows XP genuine disk that i would like to install on the computer. I have tried installing it but it wouldn't work so i wondered if i uninstall the old XP on the PC if i can then install the genuine one.

Does anyone know how to do this?

Yes insert your genuine cd and follow the screen instructions...just format and instal your new genuine copy.
Formatting will delete the old non genuine version and instal the new one.
 
Ok i will see if it asks me to formatt and install and try that.

I remember it saying last time i put the cd in, something about the partition on C drive that it couldn't remove.
 
inesert a win98 bootable cd first, then boot from cd, but then dont't start setup from cd-rom, start comp with cd-rom support. then go to the dir of win98 in the cd. type format c:/u (c: means on which older xp is installed.).
when it si formatted restart your comp & boot from xp cd which u want to install.
 
just change the cd key and the fake windows will become the genuine windows and you get to keep your data.
 
I will also try changing the cd key. Where do i do this? Although the current XP doesn't have the supporting service packs where as the new one does, which is what i need really.
 
Yes as mentioned above you can just change the cd key but i wouldnt.

Whoever put the non genuine copy on might have downloaded that xp of the internet and someone might have altred or messed around with it.

Imo its just best to do a clean instal using the genuine cd.
