unknown bios alarm codes

Board is ASUS p5ne-32 sli
cpu is e8500
Rest is inconsequential
Problem is that during post, alarm sounds:
Duration, 2-3 second long beeps, and it is continuous.
Power supply works fine, drives work fine.
Only oddity of note is that I have a wireless keyboard that shows power when plugged into the ps/2 port (through adapter), but when plugged in to a usb port, shows nothing.
Does that mean usb ports not getting power, or does that happen later in the post?

What have you done recently that may have caused the beep codes? Did you open the case for any reason? Did you move the computer? Need more info. Usually if you open the case and make sure all connections are tight, reseat the memory, video card, and any other pci cards then it usually fixes the issue.

new-build, so all components brand new.
Have verified from other sources that alarm indicates cpu porblem(as of yet, not exactly sure what is wrong with cpu).
Am currently rma'ing cpu and seeing if new cpu will fix!
will keep you updated

Got my CPU back, put it in...no change! I did however mess with the memory configuration again. I tried this before, but this time it decided to work!! I have 2-2gb corsair modules from the QVL.
I wasn't too prepared to write this so bear with me. There are four slots:A_1, B_1, A_2, B_2. I could be wrong on labeling, but for simplicity's sake, I'll just refer to the "blue" slots as B_. If I install any module in the A_1 or B_1 slots I get the above mentioned beep code. I started out with one module in B_2, and when I got it working, I tried the other module in the same slot. They both work. I then tried a number of configurations and found that any module in A_1 or B_2 causes the failure. However, it does recognize both modules if I install them in A_2 and B_2. Is that normal? Windows booted up just fine...So there I am updating drivers when all of a sudden, I get the dreaded blue screen saying that Windows is shutting down check this check that...blah blah blah. I boot into last known succesful configuration, and I have a file it "Can't find." Which is good, because that file was on the blue error message. It is ASIO.sys. I am running fine without it, but every time I boot I get this message when Windows Starts up. (XP home, by the way).Any clues, or shold I start a new thread?
Thanks a lot to those of you with so much patience for us newbies!! We really appreciate it.

That driver is referenced to your Asus motherboard. I would try updating all drivers for that motherboard, possibly even the bios.
