unknown cpu type

i was wondering, i have athlon xp barton 2600 running slow b/c of my motherboard twatting up (but thats a different story). anyway wherever i look, ie in bios POST, my computer, astra32 and cpu-z, they all say unknown cpu type. i was wondering what this meant and is there a way of fixing it

fixed the bugger. i dont trust myself when it comes to computers, but i finally upgraded the bios. and guess what, the bitch works, it now says xp 2000+ which is a lie it should be a 2600, but anyway i should be able to fix that soon. thanks guys
 
rofl good luck! i would check bios and make sure your cpu is underclocked if thats possible ;\

good job! i would deff go back through the bios the, just double check everything :)
 
its the motherboard thats stopping it running at full speed. apparently, according to other forums, it doersnt support 2600+ but supports 2800+ :confused:

anyway, when i chnage the mobo jumpers so it should be 166mhz it doesnt boot, and everyone that has my mobo and a 2600+ experienced the same problem. oh well, i should be selling it soon anyway, so ill buy a msi board. shame really, chaintech are supposed to be great for oc'in
