Well... what PCI cards do you have installed? My guess is that you might have a sound card or a video card that has multiple functions (such as a game port on the sound card or video capture for the video card), and you only have drivers installed for one of the functions.

ive installed all the pci cards i ahve sound, graphics, usb, network and i let windows try and find a driver but it cant i dont know what else to do

My point is that if you have a card that performs multiple, and you let windows install the drivers for you, it's possible that it didn't locate drivers for one of the other functions.

When you go to the device manager and look at the properties of the unknown device, what is it's 'location'?

i know what it is its my game port ive tried to install it in device manager by inserting my disk but it says "windows encountered problems installing your driver software for your device" and ive been on creatives website found the drivers for my sound card installed it on my computer and it installs fine in windows but i want to install the drivers in device manager aswell but to get rid of that Explamation mark

ive read up that microsoft no longer supports game ports no more and i extracted all the exe files and yet no joy i still can install in device manager
