unlocking pipes

wow i've been asking lots of question about my new card lately..heres another one. I heard somewhere you can unlock pipes on the x850pro by flashing the bios. I have no clue how to do that. ANyone make up a quick guide? Thanks
 
lol i was looking at that exact article when i saw your post ^^ ok, i'm a real noob at graphics card and "back up yourbios" doesn't really mean much to me in terms of how you do it. Can someone explain it to me in a bit more details?? Thanks

Alright, you have an ATi card so just download ATiTool and go to Settings>Miscellaneous>Dump BIOS then save it with your floppy disk when you are ready to flash. Don't give it too big of a name because DOS doesn't like long filenames. There is also a link to a guide on BIOS flashing in that tutorial, read that.
 
i read it and it told me to save the old bios after booting up with the boot disc, then putting in the new bios.
 
there is a command line that you can type to save your BIOS also. It is your choice which to use. It doesn't matter. I would do it through ATiTool because you can save it on your Hard Drive in case your floppy screws up and messes up your old BIOS. If it works please tell me which BIOS you used to flash it with.
 
it tells you to use flashrom for the flash but also download atiflash onto the floppy because flashrom wouldn't let me flash back to my original one but atiflash worked. So your entire setup of things on the floppy should be:
Bootable DOS Image (to get into DOS)
FlashROM (used to flash to x800XTPE)
ATiFlash (used to flash back to your backup)
new BIOS image
backup BIOS image

i followed those instructions and flashed my x850pro bios to x850xt bios. The clock speed and mem speed are correct but atitools is still only detecting 12 pipelines...wth?

It won't work on any non-VIVO cards.

Well..
It is still running with only 12 Pipelines, even after flashing an XT Bios to it. The reason why the XT Bios does not unlock the additional pipelines can be found in the Flashrom flashing tool. It "preserves" certain ROM Bios settings when flashing another BIOS.

Several people have used a Gigabyte Bios and flashing tool to get around this, but for some reason you can not flash back to 12 pipelines with this method- if you have defective pipelines you keep them.

if i remember, didnt you make a thread about VIVO saying that you had it and was wondering what it meant?

And when you say the speeds are correct, are those the speeds from the Pro or XT?
 
the speeds were correct for the xt, 520core and 540mem. Yes i have vivo, it says on the box and i have the yellow cd connector thingy on the card.

IS it worth taking the risk of getting stuck with defective pipes? Will i notice a performance boost from 16 pipes?
 
I don't think there would be much of a difference because my overclocked X800PRO is faster than a stock X800XT anyway without flashing it and the X800XT isn't a very good overclocker so just overclock your current one. My X800PRO did a 100+ Mhz Mem OC easy. It is a very good card and you can ONLY flash the AGP VIVO cards. PCI-E can't be flashed for the extra pipes. There are BIOS's that says that but you can't actually do it. I bet I could easily get over 6000 on 3dMark05 if I were to get better memory to OC my CPU more.

yeah that's probably what im gonna do, x850pro is suppose to be a good overclocker. i'll post back my 3dmarks after i oced.

edit: i overclocked it to x850xt speeds and didn't get any better of a score. I might hafta really figure out what's going on and why isn't my pipelines unlocking when others are...

i read somewhere that you can use rivatuner to unlock the pipes, I googled it and there was things on it but nothing in detail. Anyone know anything about it?
