Unmanaged Network switch

Hey all,

I have a 24 port D-link unmanaged switch. (http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16817111031)

I was wondering if it made a difference on speed if I had the computers put in groups with in closer number clusters. For instance if I use ports 1-4 vs using 1,6,16,24. Would the 1-4 have a faster connection vs being spread out? Or is there absolutely no difference since its unmanaged. If i had 8 connections would I be better to use an 8port switch vs 24 ports?

An unmanaged switch is an unmanaged switch. It won't make any difference.
 
Voyager is correct, it doesn't matter what ports you use. Just make sure the switch is 1Gbps.
 
As stated, no difference.

Usually the ports are segregated by ASIC. Some early gig switches didn't have particularly amazing ASIC capabilities so you could see a little improvement from having them spread out. The one you linked to would exhibit zero difference between ports though.
 
There will be no difrence brother.the term managed switch means u can do management tasks on d switch such as vlan creation,monitoring etc and your swict doesn't ve this capabilities.
