i have changed the another ram and it still the same...so could anyone please tell me what is going on...thanks

sounds wierd, have you tried starting the procedure again.

Also is the drive partitioned in any way

i have tried it twice and it still the same...

now i am installing the win xp cd (not the acer recovery disc) and see how it goes...

one more thing...i have seen some posts in other forums mentioned something like "window recovery console"...may i ask what is it?

when you boot from your windows cd there is an option to enter the recovery console. It gives you access to the files on the cd and the hard drive. It can prove usefull if some sys file are corrupt and need replacing. In the situation you are describing i dont think that it will be usefull

Keep us informed

Are there any unusual noises coming from the drive when the Splash screen is started? It may be bad sectors on your drive.

Actually there is another problem now ~"~

now i can get to the windows xp without the "unmountable boot volume" message, but before entering the window, the system will perform harddisk consistency check most of the time...

i went to the window recovery console and type "chkdsk /p" and found some problems...then i use "chkdsk /r" to repair and it was ok.

i thought the problem is solved...but nope

just wondering whether the hdd is f**k up or not?? but apart from the consistency check....everything seems ok
