Unplug my Video Card Fan?

Hi,

I have an ASUS EN7300GS/HTD/256M GEFORCE 7300GS PCI EXPRESS 256MB DDR2 VIDEO CARD w/TV-OUT, HDTV & DVI Video Card.

The fan on it sounds terrible, especially when turning the computer on. I was wondering if I could unplug the fan from the card and just let the heat sink pull heat away from the card. Is this a bad idea? Will my card overheat?

I only play a couple of games on it such as Medal of Honor or Wolfenstein. Other than that I mainly use the computer for school purposes.

Do a google search for VGA coolers and check to see which is compatible with your card. Also check the dimensions to make sure you have enough space for the replacement.
 
i had to get a zelman for my card when the fan died
coz with out the fan it ran at 98 degrees

angus was that on your 9600 pro?

it was you who had a 9600 right?
only for some reason my 9600 doesnt have a gpu sensor?:P

Vapor,like the guys said i would either replace the fan or just buy a new better cooler.

the fan is there for a reason,If it didnt need it then they wouldnt put it on mate :)
 
welll...

I don't want to take a risk of overheating my video card and possibly wrecking my motherboard... if that's possible... maybe I'll check into getting a new card. I can't seem to find a fan for it.
 
No don't unplug the card. If a low power card has a fan, then it probably has a TINY heatsink, so if you unplug the fan you'll probably damage your card.

Go on newegg and pick up a cheap fanless heatsink. That'll be the best thing to do.

go to comp usa and pick up a gpu fan..they sell some nice ones..that is if you in a hurry..
