Unusable SATA ports

I have six SATA ports on my motherboard and am trying to connect multiple HDDs. However only one of the SATA ports (port 1) works. I went into the BIOS and saw that all were enabled and AHCI was the chosen mode so I'm not sure where else the problem could come from. I also eliminated all other variables other than the ports (different cables, different drives, etc.) to no avail. What should I do? My os is ubuntu 12.04 LTS.

If they are all enabled in the BIOS and you've tried different drives and cables then I'd put it down to a damaged SATA controller on the board. Is it an old motherboard? I've had SATA ports die on me before.

If it's a custom build take the board out and RMA it.

If not, then RMA the whole machine.

Pretty sure it's a bad/dead SATA controller on the board.

I remember one time I couldn't get my USB 3.0 ports to work. It turned out I never installed the driver controller software.

Check your drivers!

^ Yes to that especially if you have multiple SATA controllers on your board. I know most ASUS boards do.

Good call Blue Beast! :good:
