Unusual Overclocking (Unsolved)

CPU: AMD X2 4000+ 2.1Ghz
Motherboard: GA-M61SME-S2
I seem to have a problem when I overclock, in BIOS on this motherboard you press Shift-F1 to goto advanced mode which allows the changing of the FSB.

My clock speed is at 200*10.5 = 2.1Ghz

Everytime I change my FSB and save CMOS it never works properly, the computer doesn't load after its done. I let it sit there and eventually the computer will come back to normal however it says the "computer is in safemode, please reset CPU frequency." and the CPU reset back to 2.1Ghz.

The odd thing is though, I had it on 227*10.6 last night and the night before, and it worked fine, the CPU temp was barely 40oC, but whenever I restarted my computer the issue happened again and only through resetting combinations and turning of and PC etc did the CPU stay properly.

Any help to get a grasp on whats going on with it would be very helpful, thanks in advanced ZER0X:rolleyes:

Yeah I can see that it doesnt have trouble Overclocking because i've succesfully overclocked it before, its just sometimes it keeps resseting back to safe mode, and then I have to do the different combination trick to get it going.

ATM i managed to overclock it to 2.4~Ghz from 2.1 on stock cooling, temperatures around 40oC

I'll keep that Idea in mind for now, but as long as the computer is still overclocked, I aint gonna turn it off for awhile.

Thanks for the help :)

Unfortunately it still doesn't work properly, however after a few different random combinations it finally stood at 2.4Ghz until I restarted it ...

I overclocked to 2.6Ghz with stock cooling, it's sitting at a nice temperature 40-45oC.

CMOS continues to keep switching to Safemode, still unknown why it does it.

Any more suggestions?

I dont know but it could be that since its a onboard video model Gigabyte 6100 the PCI bus might not be locked, if its not when you raise the FSB it overclocks the PCI bus. The PCI bus does not like to be overclocked. The PCI bus runs at 33.3 mhz, anything over 37 or 38mhz tends to freak out PCI devices.

You can actually adjust the PCI clock seperately to the CPU clock so i'm pretty sure they aren't in conflict with each other.

Recently i've set the CPU back to its normal FSB speed and I havn't been able to overclock it back to 2.6ghz again:confused:

Are you bumping up the CPU voltage any, on a Athlon anything over 200MHZ you probably need to bump it up some. Have you set your Hypertransport back to X4? Plus when you overclock the bus the memory overclocks to, try setting it back from 667 to 533.

Sorry my motherboard doesn't support changing the VCORE, its written there in PC health however you can't change it. I can however change the Memory to 533.

Not sure where I can change Hypertransport, i'll have a quick look in the BIOS

Edit:Just found it and changed it to 4X, I also set the ram to 533, and tried overclocking again. Still fails now. Must be because of the voltage.

yeah thats the only way to actually overclock/change the ram. In there there isnt anything about changing the vcore unfortunately.

That thought did cross my mind. Ever since I changed to the latest BIOS its been struggling to overclock, might go back to ''F7'' version.

this happened to me before to with my q6600 and 680i, what i did was update bios and the only other reason it would be doing that if you didnt overclock it right, make sure you have the right voltage for everything, keep ram unlinked and things like that
