Well, my new build ids done and upa nd running!

I went with an E8400 wolfdale
Gigibyte EP35C DES MOBO,
and 4 gigs of DDR2 800 at 4,4,4,12

I pretty big improvement over my last Athlon X2 4200+ build.

Still doing a bit of fine tuning, but i can report I get 15 secs on super Pi 1M calculations with no OC. Actually, as I'm not much of an overclocker I probably won't (plus I believe the DES software prevents it).

Just thought I'd brag for a bit.
 
when i inevitably get rid of this processor, im either getting a q6600 or that, but its difficult to decide.
 
Nice build. I was thinking of getting an Intel Core 2 Duo with my next system but decided to go with Advanced Micro Devices when I purchase my next processor.

My reasoning is I'd like to have two big companies making processors that way the competition will hopefully force better quality components. I'd hate to see AMD go under.

I honestly agree with you, about performance and price, and was putting together an AMD rig. The Phenom XX50 series are about equal in performance/price against Intel right now (Stock,m but Me and most people don't really OC), and I usually support the "little guy"; competition is a good thing (AMD's recent problems are why Intel gets to release their new quads at >$1,000...).

In this case though I went with the E8400 for the power savings. The chip is rated at 65 watt (vs 125 for the Phenom 9850) and the gigabyte DES board really helps reduce power consumption (ASUS makes a power saving board too, I'm not sure if either come in AMD sockets).

All that and I scored a 11699 in 3D mark06...

Anyhoo, just braggin on the rig.
