Hello,
New to the forum and I hope someone here can help.
1. I have a HP xt928, that I believe is 1.2 Ghz, it's a good solid performer but I would like to upgrade the CPU. I have the 478 slot on the mother board and according to tigerdirect I can get a new 2.6 Ghz CPU for the system. Is this correct and do I have to update the BIOS.
2. I have a Compaq 5000US 750 Mhz, it's another good comp for what me and the family does. Again I would like to upgrade the CPU, it's an A slot and tigerdirect says that I can go to 1.8 Ghz.

Any help with these questions would be greatly appreciated. The Compaq belongs to my 12 yr old and she wants to play the Sims, but the 750 is to slow.

Homeboy, could you not post if you don't have anything worth saying? And what's up with your sig!? I don't understnd half the stuff in there and it's taking up more than these 2 posts and probably mine combined! Soundcard and speakers? Duh :P

*cough* Anyway, geekdad, you need to get a bit more info on the boards for us. Run something like CPU-z and see what the board is, what the front side bus is, and such... I don't know as much about Pentiums, but if it's only a 1.2, I woudln't think it could go much higher. Are you sure that's right? I didn't think Pentium 4's went that low, but I didn't think Pentium 3's were anything but Slot1 or Socket 370...

As for the other, something is wrong. SlotA(assuming that's what you meant) was AMD's old slot and I don't beleive they got higher than 1.4GHz with those, if that high(they killed it well before the socket A) Once again, CPU-z would help us out.

CPUz don't do diddlyshit for OEM boards.....:D

Socket A is still in use, that is what the XP's run off of.
