Does anyone know if there are any update packs available for Windows XP? I want to make a custom installation cd with all of the updates included that are released up to now. But i don't feel like downloading 50 seperate updates. And i also need to find out which i need and which i don't. Anny suggestions?

No i've already integrated those into the cd. But i mean more like the security patches and updates. Like wmp 10, win malicious software removal tool and other recommended updates you get through windows update

i know about that but i want to download them manually so i can integrate them into a windows xp installation cd but because that takes ages i want to know if there are packs which have all of the updates since the release of sp2

As soon as you make one of these discs, in a week it'd be outdated because new updates would be issued by Microsoft. The only way to get all the important updates since the release of SP2 in one place, without going to Windows Update, would be to wait for the release of SP3 sometime late next year.

i know that too but it still saves me about an hour of time updating my computer and in the meanwhile it's a huge security risk.

That's because im directly connected to the internet with no form of security what so ever besides from the software on my laptop.

What security software are you using? The idea of security software (antivirus and firewall) is supposed to help you, not be a security problem.

i dont think you understood me right. it isnt a security problem. But im on a direct connection to the internet (most people have a router in between) which means worms, trojans viruses etc can just float into my computer unless im properly patched and have the right protection.

right now i use zonealarm firewall and i run hitman pro every once in a while

Okay, I understand. All I use is antivirus and Windows' built in firewall, and I'm on dialup, with no router. For five years, those two things have been enough to keep me safe when online. I have never picked up anything bad when updating normally.

well mine has the nasty habit of picking up a virus in about 10 mins when im unpatched on the internet... and then im just busy updating my computer.

But no one knows anything about update packs???

im using nlite right now to slipstream it. All you need is a windows xp cd then nlite copies it to your hard drive. Then you can adjust all sorts of stuff to the cd: slipstream a service pack/hotfixes, slipstream other programs, adjust settings, remove programs, make some tweaks. It really saves you tons of time if you use this cd more than one times to install your computer.

btw at that site i mentioned earlier (http://www.ryanvm.net/msfn/updatepack.html) you can find alot of other things to slipstream into your cd. As for as i know these are all specially made for nlite. btw nlite is free for use :)

Yea, nlite is good, but you can do it from run or the command prompt too, just target the iso and it'll slipstream it for you. Apparently Microsoft must not mind if you do it. But the advantage of nLite is that you can also change certain parts of the Windows install.

autopatcher

autopatcher is a ~200-300 mb download that will open a menu for you, allowing you to choose what items you want installed..such as any or all windows security updates, optional items like WMP 10, Messenger, journal viewer, powertoys, Flash, .NET, shockwave, etc etc. it also gives you the option of doing various UI tweaks. Just click the boxes you want and sit back for an hour, your machine will be patched for you.

I usually disconnect my router when installing XP; I run autopatcher, install zonealarm, and then reconnect the router, and work on drivers and software. This has kept me free of much trouble.

@red onion
yea i used that for a while to but this is just faster for me because i reinstall quite alot of times. and if i have to patch it again and again and again it gets really annoying now i just install xp and im done.

@ovenmaster
well apparently theres a way to slipstream it into your image with the cmd. But i use nlite much easier really don't need to explain anything about it just download n install and follow the directions: http://nuhi.olmik.net/new/nlite1.0fi.exe
