updated BIOS and something wrong

I updated my motherboard BIOS

I have an ABIT NF7-S

I updated to the latest one at the ABIT website abit-usa.com

after i updated i had to reboot the computer
when i did the computer booted up but it would't beep like usual and nothing came up on the monitor. the light on the monitor was just blinking

I tried to clear the CMOS by taking out the jumper, putting into the other two pins then putting it back into its original spot...it still didnt work

I dont know whats wrong with it..is it the CMOS??

First off, NEVER update your bios unless you have a good reason... I'm afraid to you might be out of luck if you don't get anything on your screen after the flash. I guess check around to be 100% sure nothing has been knocked loose, but it sounds like something didn't flash exactly right and you lost your bios...

Sometimes you can find replacement bios chips for motherboards, but they are rather hard to come across...

I guess i gotta go buy a new motherboard..that will fix it right?
 
Get the same mobo or else you'll have to reload windows too. Windows 2000/XP doesn't like it when you make big changes. You almost always will get a BSOD...

you could always just buy the same motherboard or a better one that uses the same components

You asked if buying a new motherboard would fix the BIOS problem, I'm guessing because it's a completely different motherboard the BIOS chip is not going to be flashed to nothing when you buy it. So yes, it IS a completely different part (maybe same model # but still a different part).
 
this happened to me plenty of times , if you just bought the board or stil have the box and reciept i would exchange it, because the flash card is prolly jacked, also when you tried to clear the cmos switch the jumper take the battery out and take the plug out even if the psu has a switch, b/c somtimes the mobo is stil gettin power and see if it resets if not , ur screwed... i screwed up 4 boards trying to get the bios flashed but i just cept takin them back to microcenter and excganging it, i had to change my name there 2 times lol :)
 
When you reset the battery, that was for more than few seconds right? That board should be somewhat resiliant to BIOS updateing screwups...

i thought resetting the cmos just resets all you settings but doesn't roll back the bios version? So no matter how long you take out the battery this wont be fixed :confused: Maybe i'm wrong.

Also for the size of a bios chip you'd think they could build in a redundency
