Updating GPU drivers

Last night I ran some updates and I found an update for my (Sapphire Radeon 6950) GPU, but installing it did NOT go too well.

When I clicked "install" on CCC my display began rolling like an old VHS then it bluescreened. When I got it to reboot the display was extremely pixelated and the res went down to 800x600.
Now comes the part where the display goes black and the fans start screaming like death. I thought the PC would lift off and fly!

The display then returned and the fans went back to normal, and on my puny 800x600 view, I used CCC to rollback the update. A reboot and my screen res is back to normal, no pixels, all good here.

Is there a way to get the update to work or am I stuck where I'm at?

Just stick with the driver that's working for right now and wait for the next update to come out. Unless there's anything worth upgrading the drivers for, then you don't really need to.
