Updating RAM...?

I want to add another stick of RAM on my laptop and all I know about it is that it is 1GB 800mhz.

What does all the PC2700 etc. mean..?
Do I have to worry about that..?
How can I found out what is in the first slot (without taking it to pieces)..?
If anyone happens to know what RAM is in a Fujitsu Siemens Amilo PI1505 (cheapy one) that would be a great help!

I know how to do it as they have a nice homemade guide (word doc!) on their website!

Thanks in advance, Doug.

Fujitsu Siemens AMILO Pi1505 Technical Specifications 2

Processor
1.6GHz Intel Core Duo T2050, 667Mhz FSB

Windows XP Home

5.6 pounds (2.5 kg)

Intel GMA950 IGP

Unless the specs on the site are wrong..you should look for another 1GB 667mhz chip. Your laptop wont have 800mhz ram. so it will be 667mhz--for a max. total of 2GB

pc2-4200, or pc2-5400 at 667mhz.

Scooter, In the System window (on control panel) it says 800mhz, next to the amount of RAM (0.99GB). Is this wrong then...? Or should I just open it up to take a look.. ?

Thanks, Doug.

You can certainly open it up...should be 2 screws or so on a panel on the underside,..just remove the little panel and u can see the ram chips.

I'm not really understanding what the 800 is reffering to....

I'm also using vista and i forget how xp might have laid it out.

Scooter, it says:

Intel Core Duo
T2050 @ 1.6Ghz
800Mhz, 0.99 Gig of RAM
Windows XP SP3
Home Edition
2002 Edition

I am assuming that the 800Mhz is refering to the RAM, but I will attempt to take a look inside before buying some to find out. Problem is its easy to fit adition RAM as all I have to do is pry off the keyboard, but to get to the original its in the back.

Thanks for your help, Doug.

I look a look inside, it has 2x512mb which means I need to buy 2x1gb (thought it would have 1x1gb??). Need 667mhz RAM - current stuff was 233mhz - so hopefully I should get quite a noticeable performance increase... £25 on the crucial website seems a good deal. Thanks for your help everybody! Doug.

DDR(1/2/3) memory means "Dual Data Rate"; hence, the 233 sticks would be rated at DDR2-466 even though they're probably DDR2-533 in realirt (never heard 466MTs RAM). There's no 667MHz RAM, except for some DDR3 sticks - the 667MHz RAM should be referred to as 667MTs RAM, and in reality runs at 333MHz. Seeing that you have two identical-sized sticks, the RAM is quite likely running in dual-channel, and for tasks that you would normally perform on a laptop even DDR2-400 in dual-channel would offer more than enough performance.

If you don't get what I said just there, don't worry, the increase in memory capacity itself increases the performance heaps.

I kind of understand, but £25 for the highest spec stuff it can take isn't too bad. As for the 'normal laptop use' I have to abuse my laptop a bit with CAD programs!

Thanks, Doug.
