Updating the game

I need to install a patch/update to my GTA IV because now on the last mission when I try to climb into the helicopter by tapping space, nothing happens. The screen will just flash about and I end up falling and dying.

Do I have to install every single patch or can I just install the latest one?

BTW, how do I check what patch version I already have?

If go into the folder that holds the actual program file for the game and look at the properties of the .exe program, it'll list the version in that window there.

As far as how to patch it up to that version, it depends on the game, some games require you to install each patch in succession, some you can skip over some of the steps, and some you can just install the latest one. It just depends on the game, and the game's website should tell you which is the proper course of action to take.

My version is 1.0.0.4 and from Rockstar's Website the latest is 1.0.4.0.

The latest patch I found is 300mb and unfortunately I'm capped so can't right now. Still looking if I have to install all of the patches or just the latest..

Thanks for the help though, it was very informative :good:

Can someone just point me in the right direction here, I'm trying to download the latest patch (1.0.4.0)

On Rockstars websites under downloads, then patches there is a GTA IV patch. It says its 300Mb to download, crap but okay, i click download and it'll start. Do I then go save or open?

I went open and it downloaded practically nothing and opened up WinRar. Don't know how to use that.. Can someone help me out here?

EDIT: If anyone has a link as to where I can actually download the latest patch, it will be appreciated

Hello,

Ok what i saw the latest version right now is 1.0.5.0. There is the download link for it:

http://games.softpedia.com/get/Patch/Grand-Theft-Auto-IV-Patch.shtml

You should "save" it and then "open" it. Most of the patches are automatically made to install in the destination where your game is installed. If not you have to put the right location where you game is installed and you should be good to go. When you open the patch basically the instructions on it are step by step.

Thanks for that! Perfect! Got it downloaded eventually and managed to un-zip it and everything, started it up and it started installing then BOOM! error.. Here's twp screenies of it:

Does this to me too when trying to put music into iTunes, just stops responding after a while. Is something maybe wrong with that output folder?

Try downloading the latest games for windows live install file and run that.

EDIT: maybe try a CHKDSK/HDD diagnostic

That's up to date, I know for sure.

Gosh now I cant open the game even.. Been trouble ever since I bought the game :gun:

Hmm... why dont you try to unistall the game and delete the folder that the game was installed in. Then install the game again and try to update it.

Just uninstalled and re installed. Late now, gotta go to bed early for christmas tomorrow morning. I'll try running the update again tomorrow.

Thank's for your guy's help so far, I'd still be on square one with your help!

Sorry I haven't posted on this for a while, I've been away.

Right I've done another uninstall/reinstall, tried running the game and now it doesn't start (again). All that happens is a little dialog box comes up with a G and R on it?

I've tried running the patch application after both fresh installs of the game but with now success, it still crashes at about 2/3 of the way.

I've realised something for this game, everything has to be perfect otherwise it will not work. What do you guys recommend I do now?
