Hey guys,

Right ive decided im going to upgrade...i currently have these two lovely motherboards in my ownership :P,But im not sure which path to go down...i was thinking of the 1156 route because the Cpus & ram are cheaper.

Foxconn Flaming Blade GTI Intel X58 (Socket 1366)

And

Gigabyte GA-P55-US3L Intel P55 (Socket 1156)

what path would you choose?..and what Cpu would you shove on either of the boards?

cheers.

1156 without a doubt if you don't want to wait for sandy bridge. Cheaper overall platform cost, X58 is a dead end really, so only mid range buyers should be buying current-generation Intel boards. I'd get a mATX board if I were you, cheaper, cooler, and allows air to flow better in your case. Consider This, though the posted board represents good value for money. As for the CPU, definitely stick an i5-760 in there. Without a doubt the best PerformancePerPound Intel quad ATM.

Well i already have both those boards so its a matter of choosing which one to use,but like i said il probably go with the 1156,get an I5 750,some G.Skill Ripjaws 1600mhz or those Patriot set i think you posted in the Hot deals thread the other day...both sets have excellent timings.

Actualy the 760 is cheaper :D on Ebuyer

750 -£156.16
760-£144.68

Nice one thanks :D

Just remember Intel wont honor any warranty from ebay :P

Ebay?

Im talking about Ebuyer :P

Also i meant to ask, whats the best way to sell my old setup? as a package sort of thing or seperate?

Wow, just goes to show how long I've been out of it. I bought an X58 board with my i7 920 and I thought that would be the "go to" platform for years to come.

I kind of disagree with fastdude on saying the X58 is dead,Its not and wont be for some time...look at the LGA 775 processors,Theyre considred dead sockets yet the Q6600 and upwards go like hot cakes on Ebay and still fetch around £85-90,and considering how long they have been out now...:D

Thats the problem with Intel though atm,I dont like how they keep changing their sockets all the time,I know theres probably a reason for it but if AMD can keep the same socket for as long as they have....why cant Intel!

Yeah, well I didn't mean dead as in 478 dead, I just mean dead as in if you were building a new rig then it would be foolish to build a high-end thing when another socket is just round the corner. Well, Intel are always pioneering the tech and shrinking the die size on their CPUs and experimenting while AM3 CPUs are still based on the geriatric K10/AMD64 architecture

I think with components that aren't a full rig, you'd get more from parting out. Although I guess you could do a mobo+cpu+ram bundle, I haven't seen any individuals selling them, I doubt it'd sell

But we all know the new processors will be £££,The i7s still are very expensive and look how long they have been out now :/
