Upgrade CPU on current machine easy?

like say i have a computer with amd athlon64 3200+ and i want to upgrade the cpu to dual core cpu...... how easy or how hard to replace the old cpu with the new cpu?

is it a hassle? do i jus take out the old cpu and stick the new cpu in and press it down and like that? or what? is it difficult?

do i have to take every component out before i can install the new cpu? do i have to take out some drive and wires ect.. ?

if you let the guys and girls on here no your make and model of computer we can let you know what type of cpu you can upgrade to and if its worth the price i was able to go to compaqs website on my old unit and see what would fit

Once you find out which cpu your motherboard will support it's just a matter of taking out the old cpu and putting the new one.

Don't forget about thermal paste! very important. no paste = frequent restarts, crashes and eventually dead cpu. i know from experience, unfortunately. Don't skimp on the cooler either. Even a $10 cooler would be better than intel's notoriously loud stock coolers.
