upgrade cpu?

I have an asus P4s533-mx motherboard that supports up to a p4 3mhz processor. Right now there is a 1.7mhz celeron on it. Would it make any difference to upgrade to a 3mhz, or would it not be worth the money to invest in one? My pc is running slow so I already upgraded my memory to 1gig. A bigger hard drive is next since this one is almost full. Anyone have any thoughts on this?

I think you meant to say ghz, not mhz. ghz=1000mhz.

Anyway...bigger hardrive is OK, but that ain't gonna give much of a performance boost. I'd probably get a new cpu/mobo altogether...depends on how much a p4 you're looking for costs. If it's cheap and you're not after the ultimate gaming rig, it might be worth it.

Let us know what you want out of your computer and what your upgrade budget is.

What changed since you started noticing a slowdown in your computer? Are you using newer programs, playing advanced games, or do you think your cpu is wearing out? Your solution might be as simple as defragmenting your nearly full hard drive. That could make all the difference you're looking for.

if you're going to defrag, remember that you might want to free some disk space first. You should have at least 10% free. Also, you might want to get a program like CCleaner to wipe unnecesary files off your computer.
