Upgrade for £200-£260

Hi people,

Just built my new system and its running perfectly :)
Just want to make it a bit more futureproof though.

Not really sure what would be the best thing to upgrade really though.
My budget is £200-£260 or just a bit more.

What I have been thinking of is either another stick of 512Mb ram.
Or
Swapping the board out for a high performance Asus or DFI.
Or
Upgrading to a 7800gt ( gone off that idea a bit as the clock speeds aint really that much higher than my current card )
Or
Upgrading CPU to a 3800 x2
Or
Chaging my case and PSU

Any other suggestions are appriciated :)
Please help me out as I am totally stuck with what will increase my performance the most.

Thanks
Jason :)

There may be a few bits up for sale after this;) Will be sending to UK, USA, Canada and will only accept paypal:)

sell the 2x 256 RAM and buy another 1gb stick so u can run them in dual channel mode ! (Try to match the stick to the same 1gb stick u have already in there).

I would say get a nice n powerfull PSU, and a nice, quiet, well ventilated case. Pretty much anything thermaltake will do.

Then change your Akasa CPU Cooler (Damn, I love that company) for something a little more powerfull, such as a Big Typhoon, or something simmilar.

Then with your new cooling power and PSU Power, you can O/C! :D

personally i dont think that you need the extra ram, selling it might be a good idea. i think that the processor would be a nice addition to the computer. dual core means future proof:-)

Even though the clock speeds are just a bit higher than your 6800GS, the 7800GT has 20 pixelpipelines compared to your 12. So in other words, your clock speed times 12 is a whole lot less than the 7800GT's clock speed times 20.

The thing about your memory:
Since you have such an interesting combination of ram, I'd suggest that you get rid of the 256 sticks and put a identical 1GB stick in for dual channel, @2GB.

i'd say save the cash for the future when you really need it, it looks like you have a pretty powerfull system there, and i would soave the money an upgrade is more necessary, rather than just spending to make it "future proof", if you save your money then you can buy something cheaper in a few months, and probably get better equipment, as prices will have likely to have dropped.

But if you really want to spend some money, then i would go with the ram, or maybe another nice 19 inch monitor

Lee :D
