Upgrade for Q9550?

Is there any mother board for the Q9550 that would give me any noticeable preformance over my Abit ip35 pro xe MB? such as boards that support DDr3 ram, even though that may not make much of a difference. My main use for this PC is recording audio from a host loading samples which is where I would like to see the preformance gains.

You won't notice an improvement with just a motherboard upgrade. If you want to buy a new one get one that supports an i7, you can buy an i7 930 for $199 and a good motherboard for not much more then a 775 replacement.
 
No major improvement for changing mobo. But you could consider SSD, also an aftermarket heatsink for overclocking
