upgrade my current system?

I've been planning on building a high end system (with 8800gtx, etc for $2200), but I'm reconsidering and thinking about upgrading my current system.

Right now it has:
celeron 2.2ghz
768mb pc2100 (266)
ati 9200 pci video card (yes, the plain PCI, not express)

Yea I know it's pathetic, but what does everyone think about me upgrading to a pentium 4 3.0 ghz and 2gb pc 2700 (333) ram? It'll cost ~$250 bucks for the upgrade and my computer will probably last 2 more years. Do you think it'll run Doom 3 at max setting? Or counter strike source at a good FPS? Thanks for the input.

The best PCI card available AFAIK is the nVidia 6600GT, and I also have my doubts about a Prescott working on a Celeron system because the Celerons have a slower bus speed.:(

Are you running a PCI card because your motherboard lacks a PCI-express slot? If so save your money for that high end build, you can't go too far without the PCI-E slot.

What does "I also have my doubts about a Prescott working on a Celeron system because the Celerons have a slower bus speed" mean? So it's not as easy as just dropping the p4 in the slot, boot up and it'll be as simple as that? btw, what does "AFAIK" mean?

@ Martingale00 yea I don't have a PCI-E slot.

Thanks for all the input. I think I'll just save my money for something big and just ditch this crap system. And to let everyone know how sorry this system is, I tried running Halo at high setting and I got 2 FPS with Fraps.
