I currently have a Dell (not sure what model...I'll look when Im home) thats a few years old. Needless to say its not great when it comes to gaming. Right now Im mostly playing Lineage 2 (I have to play on the lowest settings).

Im wondering if I could upgrade this comp or should I get a new system? I dont have a lot to spend on it right now so I would be looking for a budget system if I get a new one ($500 range). I dont need a monitor, keyboard, mouse, speakers either. Any help would be appreciated.

I was looking around on NewEgg but Im really clueless when it comes to computers. Could you guys help me find a good budget buy? I saw some of the cheaper refurb machines and thought it might be good to get one of them and upgrade the ram and video card. Any help is appreciated. I just want something capable of playing L2, WOW or other mmo's decently.

CPU - Intel Pentium E2160 $83
mobo - GA-P35-DS3L $95
GPU - HD 2900PRO 512MB $160
RAM - OCZ 2gb ddr2-800mhz $21
HD - WD 160gig $50
DVD - samsung 20x burner $30
PSU - raidmax 530watts $35
case - antec 900 $70
total - $544

I just copied that from a different thread, but you get the idea, it was written on there that this will give you the ability to play all games out right now on low settings you would be able to upgrade as time allowed for you if/when you wanted to

That sounds good...could u give me a link to that thread? Were these all bought at Newegg? Thanks again.

The Pentium D is outdated and slow. The architecture is old and obsolete.

Asrock is a bad motherboard company. Cheap, although at times can be quite a good motherboard, I'd recommend a more trustworthy motherboard manufacturer.

For that price, they probably skimped on the memory and bought Value RAM.

SATA probably means SATAI... SATAII are the standards now. I would not recommend SATAI. (1.5 vs 3)

The DVD Burner most likely is a cheap EIDE one.

The 8400 is the WORST DX10 gaming card you could get. '

The PSU won't hold crap.

Wow, I guess it is crap. Ill probably go with the ~$500 build on the other thread linked here. Thanks for the heads up...Ill stay away from ebay.

I hope you're not really suggesting for him/her to go with a 500W CASE power supply...

Sorry for the noob question but why is that a bad thing? Should I ALWAYS go with a case and psu separate? Can you link me to some good cases and psu's that would be good for my budget build?

Good cases:

Antec 900
Antec P180

Budget Cases:

Elite 330
Centurion 5

Case PSU's are usually extremely crappy. The worst of the horribles. Either they will:

1) Not be sufficient for your system, but does work.
2) Doesn't turn on at all. DOA.
3) Blows on the switch and takes the whole system with it.
4) Starts, works, but starts smoking.
5) Catches fire and burns basically everything.

And none of those were made up ;)

What I'd recommend:

hec Orion 585W
Stallion 550W
Rosewill 550W
OCZ 700W
